An appeal seeking to include Lacille de Silva as an intervener in the writ application filed against the incumbent administration of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was deferred by the Supreme Court recently.
The petition, filed by K. Mathivanan, an ex-Vice President of SLC and a long-standing figure in domestic cricket – challenges the legitimacy of the current office bearers of the sport’s controlling body.
Mathivanan alleges serious transgressions of the Sports Law, abuse of due process, and intentional manipulation of regulations to favour a select group of officials.
The Fundamental Rights petition was taken up before a Bench comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Justices Kumudini Wickramasinghe, and Mahinda Samayawardena of the Apex Court. The case was subsequently put off to 3 December.
Earlier in June, the SC had granted a two-month period for SLC and its office bearers to file limited objections to Mathivanan’s FR application.
