The Ministry of Health now requires a sports medical certificate for all school athletes to enhance student safety during sports.
Following past incidents, the ministry has set up sports medical units at major hospitals where students can check their fitness and receive a one-year certificate from Monday to Saturday.
Electrocardiography (ECG) tests will also be included.
Appointments can be booked in advance, though only sports medical officers can issue the official certificate, unlike family doctors who can provide temporary certifications for immediate events.
