In a final befitting its billing, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) held their nerve to defeat Punjab Kings (PBKS) 6 runs, ending18-year title drought and finally lifting their maiden IPL trophy.
Chasing 191, PBKS looked in control early with a brisk start from Priyansh and Prabhsimran, but RCB’s disciplined bowling and sharp fielding tilted the game. Krunal Pandya’s miserly 2/17 spell and key strikes by Hazelwood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Shepherd derailed PBKS despite a valiant unbeaten 61 from Shashank.
Earlier, RCB posted 190/9 with contributions across the board, led by Virat Kohli’s steady 43 and a vital 24-run cameo off 10 balls by Jitesh. Arshdeep Singh and Jamieson claimed three wickets each for PBKS, keeping the total in check.
The win was a personal triumph for captain Rajat Patidar and long-serving stalwart Virat Kohli, as RCB finally broke their title curse. PBKS, despite a strong campaign, will have to wait another year in search of their elusive title.
