Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa has announced a comprehensive development initiative for the Jaffna Teaching Hospital, aimed at enhancing both infrastructure and medical service delivery across the Northern Province. The announcement followed an inspection visit, where ongoing rapid development efforts were reviewed.

The hospital, which serves patients from Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar, and Vavuniya, performs over 35,000 surgeries and obstetric procedures annually and is supported by a modern laboratory facility. Minister Jayatissa emphasised that healthcare is a shared responsibility, stressing the importance of collaboration at every level.

He toured key units including surgical, emergency, and CT scan departments, and held discussions with hospital staff to address challenges and gather input. The visit was joined by Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar, local MPs, and senior medical administrators.
