The much-awaited “Battle of the Hindus” cricket big match is set to captivate cricket enthusiasts on the 30 June and 1 July at Tamil Union international stadium. 

Having commenced in 1981, the prestigious tournament was temporarily halted after 1982 due to circumstances within the country. However, in a remarkable turn of events, it was revived in 2009 and has since become a prominent fixture in the Sri Lanka school cricket calendar.

The “Battle of the Hindus” is an exhilarating contest that showcases the exceptional talent and sporting spirit of the students from Hindu College Colombo and Jaffna Hindu College. 

The match, adhering to the rules and regulations of the Sri Lanka School Cricket Association, will span over two days, allowing players to display their cricketing prowess and compete for victory.

In a significant development, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Principals of Hindu College Colombo and Jaffna Hindu College on 18 June 2023 at the boardroom of Tamil Union. This MoU reflects the commitment of both institutions to foster camaraderie and promote healthy competition among their students.

The excitement reached new heights as the cricket captains from both schools unveiled the highly sought-after 12th “Battle of the Hindus” cup. 

This prestigious trophy represents the pinnacle of achievement for the victorious team, a symbol of their dedication and hard work throughout the tournament.

The title sponsor of the event is the Janashakthi Group and its support not only demonstrates their commitment to nurturing sportsmanship but also their dedication to empowering the youth and fostering a sense of unity through sports.

The “Battle of the Hindus” has long been an event that unites communities, ignites passion, and showcases the immense talent of young cricketers. It is a testament to the enduring spirit of sportsmanship and the power of cricket to bridge divides and bring people together.

All cricket enthusiasts, supporters, and well-wishers are eagerly anticipating the upcoming match, which promises to be a thrilling showcase of skill, determination, and teamwork.

In the past 11 occasions, Hindu College Colombo emerged victorious on three occasions and Jaffna Hindu College had won once. Remaining seven instances, the match ended in a draw.
