The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Sri Lanka has expressed full support for Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and his efforts to seek justice for victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
The Conference rejected recent social media claims against the Cardinal and said allegations about his tenure were false and misleading.
It also stated that, under Canon Law, bishops submit resignations at age 75, with final decisions made by the Pope.
The statement reaffirmed support for the Cardinal’s ongoing service and the Church’s continued push for truth and justice over the Easter Sunday attacks.
