The Ministry of Transport plans to extend the Kankesanthurai (KKS) railway line to a new industrial zone, enhancing goods and passenger transport in the Northern Province. 

Minister of Transport, Bimal Ratnayake, during a station inspection, highlighted the need for improved freight facilities. 

The move also aims to integrate bus and rail services with access to Jaffna International Airport, supporting regional logistics and economic growth.
