The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced the resumption of construction on the Central Expressway section between Kadawatha and Mirigama, funded by local aid.

According to the Ministry, a proposal has already been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers on this project, which will be undertaken by the companies currently selected for the construction.

Work initially began in 2020 but was halted midway due to the economic crisis.
