Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa stated colonialism has re-emerged in a different and indirect form in Sri Lanka and other countries in the Southern Hemisphere, particularly affecting economic and cultural spheres.

Speaking at a ceremony at Dharamakeerthirama in Kollupitiya to mark the 78th Independence Day anniversary, Premadasa said this modern form of colonialism must be identified and defeated to protect national sovereignty and identity.
