A section of the Colombo-Kandy main road has been temporarily closed after the centre of a bridge near Yakkala Ayurveda began caving in.

Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe, Chairman of the Gampaha District Coordination Committee, confirmed the collapse.

The closure affects the stretch between Yakkala and Thihariya. Motorists are strongly requested to use alternative routes to avoid the affected area. 

The damage is believed to be linked to the persistent heavy rainfall and flooding that have impacted the region.
