Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA), Gemunu Wijeratne, says operators may withdraw from the national bus fare policy if an adequate fare revision is not granted.
He said the expected 20% fare increase from 1 July has now dropped to around 15–17% after a recent diesel price reduction.
Wijeratne alleged that the timing of the fuel price revision affected the fare calculation and that private bus operators were not consulted by the National Transport Commission (NTC).
He warned that the association may take legal action if the revised fare is not aligned with the national policy.
