Sri Lanka extends ban on 15 organizations, including LTTE

The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) has issued an extraordinary gazette extending the ban on 15 organizations, including the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), for their alleged involvement in terrorism-related activities and financing.


The gazette, signed by Secretary to the Ministry of Defense (MoD) Sampath Thuyyakontha, states that these organizations have repeatedly provided financial support for terrorism. Consequently, their financial and economic assets remain frozen.


Organizations Under Continued Ban:

1. Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)

2. Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO)

3. Tamil Coordinating Committee (TCC)

4. World Tamil Movement (WTM)

5. Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE)

6. World Tamil Relief Fund (WTRF)

7. Headquarters Group (HQ Group)

8. National Thowheed Jama’ath (NTJ)

9. Jama’ate Millathe Ibrahim (JMI)

10. Wilayah As Seylani (WAS)

11. National Council of Canadian Tamils (NCCT)

12. Tamil Youth Organization (TYO)

13. Darul Ath’thabawiyya

14. Sri Lanka Islamic Student Movement (SLISM)

15. Save the Pearls


In addition to the extended ban, the government has reaffirmed its list of 222 individuals linked to terrorism.


The MoD stated that the decision aligns with the country’s ongoing counterterrorism efforts to prevent extremist activities and disrupt financial networks supporting terrorism.
