A 61-year-old motorcyclist from Periyamulla, Negombo, died on the spot after his motorcycle was struck by a train at an unprotected railway crossing near Lurdu Mawatha in Kochchikade.

The accident occurred when a train travelling from Chilaw to Colombo collided with the motorcycle.

The pillion rider sustained critical injuries and was initially admitted to the Negombo Hospital before being transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.

Kochchikade Police are continuing investigations into the incident.
