The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has extended its urgent landslide warnings across several areas in five districts, with the alert remaining active until 10:00 p.m. today (26) due to ongoing heavy rains.
An elevated Amber (Level 2) warning - indicating a need for residents to be prepared for evacuation, is in place for two Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) and their surrounding areas:
Walallawita in the Kalutara District and Welipitiya in the Matara District.
A Yellow (Level 1) warning, which advises the public to be on the alert for potential hazards, covers several areas across four districts:
In the Galle District, the affected areas are Nagoda, Elpitiya, Baddegama, and Yakkalamulla DSDs.
The warning also extends to Palindanuwara and Mathugama DSDs in the Kalutara District, Kotapola DSD in the Matara District, and Elapatha, Kalawana, and Pelmadulla DSDs in the Ratnapura District.
The NBRO urges all individuals in these high-risk zones to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions against landslides, slope failures, and rockfalls.
