Power sector employees urged to continue work amid transition

11 Mar 2026 | BY Staff Writer

Two newly established power sector companies, Electricity Distribution Lanka (Private) Limited and the National Transmission Network Service Provider (Private) Limited, have instructed electricity workers to report to work and perform their duties without interruption.

The directive aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply of electricity across Sri Lanka.

The companies emphasized that, following the declaration of all electricity supply services as essential through a gazette, employees must take necessary steps to maintain continuous service.

Failure to do so could be considered a serious offence under the Essential Services Regulations, with disciplinary action possible.

Employees are instructed to immediately carry out their assigned duties.

The process of issuing appointment letters is ongoing, and efforts are underway to complete employee allocations soon.
