During the 7th CPA Asia Regional Conference in Karachi, Pakistan, a landmark ‘Karachi Declaration’ was adopted, reaffirming the shared commitment of Asian and South-East Asian parliaments to democratic governance, accountability, inclusivity, responsible innovation, and sustainable peace.
Led by Sri Lankan Deputy Speaker Rizvie Salih, the delegation included prominent parliamentarians from Sri Lanka.
The conference, attended by representatives from Pakistan, Maldives, Malaysia, and other regions, focused on rebuilding trust, promoting dialogue, and addressing global challenges such as misinformation, social exclusion, and climate change.
In his address, Salih highlighted Sri Lanka’s efforts in civic education and youth engagement, emphasizing that parliaments must foster transparency and reconciliation for lasting stability.
The conference ended with the adoption of the Karachi Declaration, emphasizing cooperation and parliamentary diplomacy to create transparent and participatory institutions capable of tackling today’s complex issues.
