President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has directed the formation of a special committee under the Presidential Secretariat to investigate alleged corruption and irregularities at SriLankan Airlines.

The decision followed a nearly 4-hour meeting at the Presidential Secretariat with the airline’s Board of Directors and trade union leaders, aimed at charting a sustainable future for the struggling national carrier under continued Government ownership.

The President emphasised that the Treasury will no longer fund SriLankan Airlines and stressed the need for improved financial management, institutional performance, and internal accountability to restore profitability.

He also called for a unified national effort to rebuild the airline and urged staff to contribute meaningfully to its turnaround.

Trade unions, including pilots, engineers, and executives, pledged their full cooperation with the Government’s vision and the new business plan designed to revitalize the airline.
