Dr. Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is arriving in Sri Lanka today (15) for a two-day official visit.
This marks the first visit by a serving IMF FDMD to the country in nearly two decades, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) confirmed.
Dr. Gopinath will be the guest of honour at a high-profile conference titled ‘Sri Lanka’s Road to Recovery: Debt and Governance’, co-hosted by the Ministry of Finance, CBSL, and the IMF.
The visit comes at the midpoint of Sri Lanka’s IMF-supported reform programme and aims to assess progress on debt restructuring, macroeconomic recovery, and governance reforms.
She is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with Government officials and other key stakeholders to evaluate the IMF’s ongoing engagement with Sri Lanka.
