The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) officially presented the 2025 Human Development Report to Speaker of Parliament Jagath Wickramaratne during a meeting at the Parliament premises.

This year’s report, themed “A matter of Choice – people and possibilities in the age of AI,” explores the responsible and transformative use of artificial intelligence for national development.

UNDP Resident Representative Azusa Kubota emphasised that the report aims to demonstrate how AI can enhance human creativity and societal progress.

Discussions also covered future parliamentary development initiatives, including island-wide student awareness programmes and anti-corruption training for MPs in collaboration with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.

Speaker Wickramaratne welcomed the initiatives and confirmed plans to establish a Parliamentary Institute for Studies and Training to further support elected officials at all levels.
