Police officers at a routine checkpoint near the Golumadama Junction in Ratmalana opened fire on a van after its driver failed to comply with instructions to stop.

Officers gave chase to the vehicle following the incident. 

Police later arrested the driver in connection with the confrontation. 

Mount Lavinia Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
