The Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) has announced that National Identity Cards (NICs) will be issued today under a special one-day service for those who were unable to receive their NICs recently due to a computer system breakdown.

Acting Commissioner General of Registration of Persons M.S.P. Suriyapperuma stated that this arrangement is specifically for individuals who visited the Suhurupaya head office in Battaramulla or provincial offices on 23, 24, and 26 March , but could not obtain their NICs.

Applicants are advised to bring all necessary documents to collect their NICs today.

Normal operations for the one-day service will resume tomorrow at the Battaramulla head office and all provincial branches. Regular services at all offices are scheduled to fully resume next Monday, 6 April.

Additionally, services such as NIC data verification for government and non-government institutions, as well as English translations, are currently operating on a limited basis.

The department encourages the use of alternative methods for these services where possible.

The Acting Commissioner General assured the public that once the computer system is fully restored, all departmental services will continue without interruption.
