Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is due to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (8) for a three-day official visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral defence and maritime cooperation.

Singh will be in Sri Lanka from 8 to 10 September, India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) said, during which he will hold discussions with the Sri Lankan leadership on a range of issues and meet members of the Indian diaspora in Colombo.

He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior officials from India’s Ministry of Defence and Ministry of External Affairs.

India and Sri Lanka share longstanding civilisational ties and a broad partnership spanning regional security, defence, economic and trade cooperation, as well as strong people-to-people links.

The bilateral relationship gained further momentum when India assisted Sri Lanka during the country’s economic crisis and provided assistance as one of the first responders following Cyclone Ditwah in 2025.

The PIB said Singh’s visit would further strengthen the traditionally close and friendly relations between the two countries, including cooperation in the maritime and defence sectors.
