The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) has criticised the Department of Railways for years of audit neglect and administrative inefficiency.
The Auditor General revealed that Audit and Management Committees had not met in the past 5 years, and 27 audit queries remain unanswered.
COPA noted that audit reports for 2020–2022 were all submitted in 2023, calling it a serious breach of duty by public officials.
Sri Lanka Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara pledged to hold all committee meetings this year to address the lapse.
Chief Financial Officer P.D.R.M. Divamani cited internal delays across 9 departments as the reason for late submissions.
