Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining transparency and good governance in response to recent allegations made by the country's Minister of Sports.
In a statement released today (8), SLC dismissed these allegations as "false, malicious, and misleading."
SLC emphasised that any claims of financial impropriety or mismanagement were baseless and intended to sow "unnecessary concern among the public."
SLC further noted its responsibility in hosting the ICC Under 19 World Cup in 2024. SLC highlighted their diligent efforts to ensure the successful execution of the tournament, including the enhancement of match venues to meet the International Cricket Council's (ICC) stringent standards.
Regarding concerns about the development of the Dambulla International Cricket Ground, SLC clarified that these improvements were in response to long-standing requirements and the need to meet ICC venue standards. SLC refuted statements suggesting an expenditure of Rs. 1.5 billion solely on floodlight replacement as false and unfounded.
SLC also addressed the removal of project-related payment vouchers and documentation by members of the Interim Committee, warning of potential legal action if these materials were not promptly returned.
