Adhitya Ayurveda Colombo is located down Dharmapala Mawatha, Colombo 3, and opened its doors on 29 June. The event was attended by the Gunawardhana family, including Adhitya Ayurveda Chairman Dr. Sarath Gunawardhana and his son, Dr. Kasun Gunawardhana, who specialises in Panchakarma treatments, and other well-wishers. The chief guest of the post-opening event was Army Commander Lt. Gen. Vikum Liyanage.

The event gave invitees the opportunity to learn more about Ayurveda treatment, the services offered by Adhitya Ayurveda, and their goals and vision. Addressing those gathered at the newly-opened premises, Dr. Sarath Somasiri Gunawardhana called the moment a milestone in his career as a medical practitioner.

“With an objective of taking forward the inheritance of an ancient Ayurveda lineage, I joined the field of Ayurveda as a medical practitioner with great honour and passion,” he said. Dr. Gunawardhana graduated from the University of Ceylon in 1973 and began practising as a registered Ayurveda physician in 1976.

“My medical profession that thus began completes five decades today. During this time, I dedicated my time to the elevation of Ayurveda. As a Hela medicine practitioner, I always attempted to give the correct medicines and treatments to the patients who came to me, placing great faith in local medicine,” he shared, adding that he also wanted to take Ayurveda to all corners of Sri Lanka as well as the world.

“With a history of over 3,000 years, local Ayurveda has not yet drawn wide attention among Sri Lankans as well as foreigners. It is not spoken about much. I have always wanted to change this, and a step to doing so was the establishment of Adhitya Ayurveda in Anuradhapura,” Dr. Gunawardhana shared.

Echoing these thoughts was the Adhitya Ayurveda Chairman’s son Dr. Kasun Gunawardhana, who is also attached to the organisation. Addressing those gathered at the post-opening event, he said it was a very special day and a big milestone for the Adhitya Ayurveda family as they have proudly taken another step ahead in their journey of taking Hela Wedakama from Rajarata to the world.

“This is the first major step that we are taking towards that journey of bringing our Rajarata Hela Wedakama from my father Dr. S.S. Gunawardhana to Colombo,” he said, adding that they have a vision for the future in taking their unique treatments to the world. Dr. Kasun Gunawardhana also shared that Adhitya Ayurveda was carrying out a lot of research on Ayurveda and Hela Wedakam, which he believed there should be more of.

The night was made even more interesting with a yoga and meditation performance and a treatment demonstration, along with an array of healthy food and beverages.
