The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced plans to develop playgrounds in 25 selected schools across all 25 districts of the country. 

The initiative aims to enhance sports facilities and promote physical activity among students.

Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Madhura Seneviratne, stated that these playgrounds will be constructed according to standard specifications, including the building of 400-meter running tracks.

He highlighted that the project particularly focuses on creating proper 400m tracks, as there is a noticeable lack of such facilities in most schools outside Colombo.

Under this program, one national school and three provincial schools will be selected from each district for development. 

The project will ensure that the playgrounds are equipped with adequate infrastructure and maintenance facilities, with support from the Ministry of Sports to ensure quality and sustainability.
