The Colombo East Container Terminal (ECT) of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority commissioned its third berth today (23), the SLPA stated.
Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe (Retired), SLPA Chairman, noted the terminal handled over 500,000 TEUs in 2025 and said the new berth will boost throughput and strengthen Colombo as a key transshipment hub.
Managing Director Eng. Ganaka Hemachandra stated full jetty construction will be completed by mid-February, enabling the terminal to target 1.5 million TEUs this year.
The 1,300-metre terminal offers deep-water capacity, eases congestion, and allows efficient handling of large mainline vessels.
Global carriers including Maersk, CMA CGM and MSC attended, reaffirming confidence in Colombo’s operational and technical capabilities.
