Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr Nalinda Jayatissa stated the government’s decision to increase judges’ retirement age aims to expedite pending court cases.

He noted the proposal includes judicial officers such as Supreme Court judges, the Chief Justice and magistrates.

The minister stated measures are also being taken to recruit additional judges and reduce the backlog of cases.
