Several politicians visited the Magazine New Remand Prison on Friday (22) following the remanding of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Former ministers Duminda Dissanayake and Prasanna Ranatunga, along with MP Chamara Sampath and a group of supporters, arrived at the premises but were not permitted entry.

Former President Wickremesinghe, who was placed in remand custody earlier in the day, has been admitted to the prison hospital on medical advice.

Sources told The Morning that he was hospitalised due to high blood pressure and elevated blood glucose levels.
