Sri Lanka has welcomed the Memorandum of Understanding between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran to establish an immediate ceasefire.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism said the agreement is a step towards de-escalation and regional stability.

Sri Lanka said it supports peaceful resolution through diplomacy and hopes for continued negotiations.

It also thanked Pakistan and Qatar for their role in mediating the agreement.
