Digital Economy: GovPay processes Rs 3.86 b since launch

25 May 2026

Just months after its official rollout in February 2025, the Government’s unified digital payment platform, GovPay, has processed transactions worth more than Rs  3.86 billion, according to information obtained by The Daily Morning through a Right to Information (RTI) request submitted to the Ministry of Digital Economy.

The RTI response revealed that a total of 264,415 transactions had been successfully completed through the platform as of 21 May.

At present, 22 Government institutions are actively facilitating payments through GovPay, marking a significant step towards consolidating State revenue collection under a single digital gateway.

The platform has also seen strong participation from the financial sector, with 14 banks and six FinTech applications fully integrated with GovPay.

Despite the high transaction volume, citizen adoption remained at an early stage, with 19,727 individuals recorded as users of the system.

According to the RTI response, GovPay’s objective was to facilitate efficient remittance of Government payments.

The Ministry further stated that the platform had already generated considerable savings and increased efficiency in a broad way, although specific figures relating to cost reductions have not been disclosed.
