The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) announced plans to introduce a licensing system for commercial drone pilots, making it the first in the country. 

Under the new regulations, applicants will need to pass a theory exam, medical and security checks, and demonstrate practical skills. 

The first license evaluation has already been completed successfully. All commercial drones must also be registered with CAASL. 

The move aims to modernize Sri Lanka’s drone industry, align with global standards, and boost economic growth. 

Once operational, Sri Lanka will be the second South Asian country, after India, to implement such a licensing system.
