51st Abdul Jabbar Trophy: Pathana beat resurgent Thurstan

  • Jafrad; Pathana’s hat-trick hero

Isipathana College beat their brotherhood rivals Thurstan College 24-05 to lay their hands on the Abdul Jabbar Trophy played for the 51st encounter at Havelock Park yesterday (1).

Rismy Jafrad scored the opening try of the game as Isipathana took the lead in the 10th minute. Coming in as underdogs, Thurstan played really well in the opening passages which threatened the red hot favourites Isipathana. The Thurstanites made several inroads into the Pathana half. Both teams made crucial errors with ball handling as multiple fumbles kept them denied scoring opportunities. It was Jafrad yet again who scored within 5 minutes with a converted try to take a 12-00 lead.

Halftime: IC 12-00 TC

Keveen Irosh started off the second half with a bang for Pathana with a converted try which saw pure brilliance from the forwards.

Rismy Jafrad scored his third try to secure the hat-trick just under 50 minutes on the clock.

Thurstan finally got their act together through a well deserved try by Rasanjana Nirmal.

Fulltime: Isipathana 24 (4T 2C) beat Thurtan 05 (1T)
