A woman has died and seven people have been injured in a fatal accident on the Southern Expressway between the Galanigama and Kahathuduwa interchanges.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning(16) when a van traveling from Galle to Colombo collided with the rear of a lorry.

The van's driver, a male passenger, and two women were among the injured and were taken to Homagama Hospital. 

Tragically, one of the women, a 35-year-old, later succumbed to her injuries.

Three children injured in the crash were transported to Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for treatment. 

The body of the deceased has been placed at the Homagama Hospital morgue. Moragahahena Police are currently investigating the incident.
