The first Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala Festival begins tonight (4) and will continue until 8 August . 

The historic procession follows the five-day Kumbal Perahera and will conclude with the water-cutting ceremony at Getambe on 9 August. 

Over 6,000 police officers have been deployed to ensure public safety.
