Olympic glory in 2028: Head - CIC Holdings partners Rumesh Tharanga

14 Oct 2026

Diversified conglomerate CIC Holdings PLC has partnered with Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga as his Official Nutritional and Wellness Partner, supporting his preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games.

Under the partnership, CIC will support Tharanga’s nutrition, wellness and overall well-being as he works towards the Olympics, with the ambition of winning Sri Lanka’s first-ever Olympic gold medal.

Tharanga established himself among the world’s leading javelin throwers during the 2026 season, setting a Sri Lankan national record of 92.62 metres in Rome, winning the Commonwealth Games title and becoming Sri Lanka’s first Diamond League champion.

He further strengthened his position by winning gold at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest with a final-round throw of 91.09 metres.

Most recently, Tharanga won Sri Lanka’s only gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, securing the Men’s javelin throw title.

CIC said the partnership reflected its commitment to supporting Tharanga through the preparation, discipline and perseverance required to compete at the highest level of international sport.

CIC Holdings PLC Group CEO Aroshan Seresinhe said: “For generations, CIC has played a role in nurturing Sri Lankan lives and helping communities progress. Our partnership with Rumesh is a natural extension of that commitment. His journey towards 2028 represents discipline, resilience, and the courage to pursue an extraordinary ambition. We are proud to stand beside him, supporting his nutrition and well-being as he works towards representing Sri Lanka on the world’s biggest sporting stage.”

The partnership also seeks to inspire young Sri Lankans by highlighting that sporting achievement is built long before competition day, through consistent training, preparation, nutrition, well-being, and belief.

Sharing his thoughts on the partnership, Tharanga said: “Representing Sri Lanka at the highest level is a responsibility I carry with great pride. The journey towards 2028 requires complete commitment, both physically and mentally, and having CIC stand with me as my Nutritional and Wellness Partner gives me important support as I continue that journey. My dream is to achieve something historic for Sri Lanka, and I am grateful to have partners who believe in that ambition and are prepared to be part of the journey.”

Through the partnership, CIC aims to build a long-term platform around Tharanga’s road to Olympics 2028, bringing Sri Lankans closer to the effort, resilience, and preparation behind his pursuit of sporting excellence.
