The gunman responsible for killing notorious criminal “Ganemulla Sanjeewa” was recruited through Facebook, Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manathunga revealed.

The suspect, a former military personnel, was lured with messages offering "business opportunities" while he was unemployed. 

Authorities note that many involved in such crimes are ex-military or police personnel.

Defense officials have intensified efforts to track and arrest military deserters involved in criminal activities.
