Sri Lanka received $ 751.1 million in workers’ remittances in January, according to data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Remittance inflows in January 2025 were recorded at $ 573.0 million. The latest figures therefore reflect an increase of $ 178.1 million compared to the corresponding month last year.
Tourism earnings declined during the same period. Sri Lanka earned $ 378.3 million from tourism in January this year, compared with $ 400.7 million in January 2025.
The Central Bank noted that tourism revenue in January represented a 5.6% decline compared to the same month a year earlier.
