The individual who identified himself as a Buddhist monk named “Vishwa Buddha” was remanded yesterday (21) until 26 January, after being produced before the Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court in Nugegoda.
The suspect was remanded after the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested him again for allegedly making insulting statements against Buddhism despite a court warning not to do so. The person in question, who was out on bail, had been arrested in the Kalagedihena area, as per the Police.
During the past few months, Vishwa Buddha attracted attention on social media platforms – especially TikTok – for posting controversial videos where he sometimes appeared as a Buddhist monk. After being arrested and remanded, he was released on bail earlier this month. After his release, he was seen making controversial statements during interviews with several YouTube-based programmes and commentators.
