The All Island Banquet Owners and Caterers Association has announced an increase in fees for reception halls and catering services, effective from today (8).
During a media briefing, the Association’s President, Akila Jayaratne, stated that for new bookings made from May onwards, charges could rise by approximately 15% to 20%.
The decision to raise prices was driven by the ongoing fuel crisis in the country and the recent imposition of VAT, which have significantly impacted operational costs. Additionally, the Association revealed that a 10% price increase will be applied to services already booked.
Jayaratne explained that the industry is facing a severe crisis due to rising costs of goods and services.
The fee revisions are seen as necessary to safeguard the industry’s sustainability.
He also noted that if the Government offers appropriate solutions or relief measures, they are willing to reconsider and reduce the increased charges.
