Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya has lodged complaints with the National Police Commission and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) against a Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) over alleged misconduct.

The IGP has requested the transfer and disciplinary inquiry of the officer, who is accused of sharing false information about senior police officials and leaking confidential documents to external parties.

An audio recording, allegedly featuring a conversation between the SDIG and a social media activist from Kurunegala, has also been submitted as evidence. 

The recording reportedly includes fabricated claims against the IGP and SDIG Kithsiri Jayalath of the Southern Province.

The CID has already recorded statements from the IGP and the activist, with further statements expected from the implicated SDIG.
