Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced in Colombo yesterday (19) that the Colombo Security Conclave will soon be granted the status of an international organization, with an Indian national set to serve as its first Secretary General.
Addressing the media, Misri stated that discussions with national advisors and deputies from various member countries have made significant progress.
He added that agreements pertaining to the process have been finalised, although a decision regarding the final headquarters location is still pending.
Misri explained that, by consensus, the first Secretary General of the Colombo Security Conclave will be an Indian national, with approval processes currently underway.
He emphasised that this development will benefit all member countries, particularly those around the Indian Ocean region.
The Colombo Security Conclave, established in 2011, is a regional security grouping focused on maritime security, counterterrorism, and transnational crime in the Indian Ocean. Its members include India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Mauritius, Bangladesh, Seychelles, and Malaysia.
