Police introduce six-month firearm inspections for licence holders

01 Jun 2026 | By Staff Writer

Sri Lanka Police has introduced a new requirement for firearm licence holders to present their weapons for inspection every six months.

The directive applies to all firearm licence holders and will be part of the 2026 licence renewal process.

Police will verify the firearm’s condition and confirm that the serial number matches licence records.

The measure was introduced following instructions from the National Security Council, with inspections to be carried out at the nearest police station.
