Sri Lanka Customs has seized a stock of foreign-manufactured cigarettes worth Rs. 60 million at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).
4 men aged 25 to 30, returning from Dubai, were arrested during the bust—the largest such seizure in recent history.
Customs officers uncovered the concealed cigarettes in 20 travel bags as the suspects attempted to exit separately.
The individuals are residents of Wellampitiya, Dematagoda, Bambalapitiya, and Koswatta.
Investigations are ongoing into the smuggling attempt.
