As part of the 2025 budget proposal, the Government will offer a "Timely Food Package" valued at Rs. 5,000 for just Rs. 2,500 during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.

The package will be provided to selected beneficiaries from the 812,753 individuals who applied for Aswesuma benefits. 

The Cabinet has approved the initiative, which will see the food packages distributed through Lanka Sathosa and Consumer Cooperative Societies Federation of Sri Lanka Ltd. (COOPFED) outlets from 1 to 13 April.
