Sri Lanka has slumped to ninth in the latest annual update of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s T20I team rankings, their lowest ever position, with India and Australia, solidifying their top positions in the Men’s and Women’s lists respectively.

Dasun Shanaka’s team thus slipped from eighth to ninth after dropping six rating points, tumbling below Bangladesh and now sitting just one point ahead of Afghanistan.

Suriyakumar Yadav’s side continue to lead the Men’s rankings with 275 points, maintaining a comfortable gap over England (262) and Australia (258), with the top seven positions all unchanged.

In comparison, Bangladesh moved up to eighth place, profiting from Sri Lanka’s slide, while Afghanistan remained 10th.

The update also saw the USA scale two places to 13th, leapfrogging the Netherlands and Scotland. Nepal advanced to 17th, while Oman moved up to 19th.

In the Women’s rankings, Australia remain firmly atop with 287 points, followed by England and India.

Sri Lanka women, who recently whitewashed Bangladesh in a three-match T20I bilateral series held on to seventh place, closing the gap on higher-ranked teams to just one point.

The annual update weighs matches played since May 2025 at full value, with results from the previous two years counted at 50 per cent.
