Ex-Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews, last week divulged information to the local media, linked to an online financial scam, fraudulently using his edited footage.

According to the veteran star, a match interview, which he had given to a local television station, had been allegedly dubbed and used in the doctored video, surreptitiously, promoting a betting syndicate.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the 36-year-old who has been plying his trade, during the past 16-year period and now at the twilight of his career, exposed the fraudulent activity, terming it “an absolute scam.”

He further mentioned “A malicious attempt at cheating people and tarnishing my reputation. These scammers are using an edited video from a leading TV network. Please report such activity and alert the authorities on the same. I will be reporting this to the relevant authorities.”

It was not immediately clear, as to which domestic TV network, the experienced all-rounder, had given his match interview.

Mathews, who has won 109 Test caps and featured in 226 ODIs, besides playing in 87 T20s for his country, was unavailable for comment, despite repeated attempts by The Daily Morning Sport’, to contact.

The former skipper also became the first player in the history of the game, to be given controversially ‘timed out’, in Sri Lanka’s match against Bangladesh, during last year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, by now retired South African umpire Marais Erasmus.
