Former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment, Manusha Nanayakkara has been accused of illegal financial gains linked to the controversial E8 visa scheme, which critics allege facilitated human trafficking.
Kosala Wickramasinghe, Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE ) Chairman, raised concerns during a televised discussion, claiming suspicions of illegal profits but noting that evidence is still being gathered.
He highlighted broader issues under investigation related to the scheme.
Nanayakkara defended the program, stating it was designed to create job opportunities for Sri Lankans and attributed delays to internal bureaucracy.
He urged the Government to reconsider implementing the scheme, emphasising its potential to generate thousands of new jobs.
