The Sri Lankan Government plans to regulate online hotel booking platforms to address tax concerns, Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath announced in Parliament yesterday (18).

He stated that existing platforms, including Booking.com, operate without official registration or tax contributions, prompting discussions on introducing multiple alternatives.

Accordingly, a Sri Lankan group in Brisbane, Australia, has also developed an OTP-based platform to reduce the current monopoly in the sector.
