The 48th National Games kicked off last weekend (15 and 16 June) in Mahiyanganaya, with the marathon, walking and cycling races witnessing a participation of top athletes from around the country. 

Having been a part of Sri Lanka’s biggest marathons for over 35 years, Nestlé Nestomalt was proud to jointly organise the games this year with the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. 

Results of the marathon event held on 16 June are as follows:

Marathon (men):

First place - T.W. Rathnapala (time duration: 2.25.55)

Second place - K. Shanmugeswaran – (time duration: 2.26.20)

Third place - S.R.G. Amila Sanath Kumara – (time duration: 2.27.11)

Marathon (women):

First place - H.M.W.G.W.M. Herath (time duration: 2.55.14)

Second place - W.M. Nimesha Nidarshi (time duration: 3.01.52)

Third place - H.W.C. Damayanthi (time duration: 3.14.28) 

The winners of the marathon were awarded cash prizes, with first-place receiving Rs. 50,000, second place receiving Rs. 40,000 and third place receiving Rs. 30,000. Furthermore, the athletes who finished among the top 10 were also awarded special cash prizes.
